Financing a work vehicle for your business: what to bring and how it works

Most businesses finance their vans and trucks instead of paying cash, so the money stays in the business. Here is how the process works when you buy a used commercial vehicle with us. Every financing decision is made by the lender, not by the dealership.

Personal or business name?

  • Personal financing uses your own credit history. It is often the faster route for owner-operators and new businesses.
  • Business financing puts the vehicle in the company's name and looks at the business: time in operation, revenue and, often, the owner's guarantee.

Talk to your accountant about which works better for taxes and insurance.

What to bring

  • Valid driver's license.
  • Proof of income — recent pay stubs, or for self-employed buyers, bank statements and recent tax returns.
  • Proof of address.
  • For business financing: business registration or EIN documentation and business bank statements.
  • Insurance information (commercial insurance may be required for commercial use).
  • Your trade-in title or payoff information, if you have one.

Down payment

A larger down payment lowers the amount financed and the monthly payment. What each lender asks for depends on the vehicle, the term and the application — an advisor can walk you through the options for a specific unit.

How long it takes

With complete documents, many applications get an answer the same day. Missing paperwork is the most common delay.
